We have not had a crossing guard at the intersection of West Queen Lane and Conrad Street since June 2025. Dropoff and pickup are becoming increasingly busy and crossing is becoming increasingly dangerous for students and families.

I am writing as a concerned parent to urge your department to post a crossing guard at the three-way intersection of West Queen Lane and Conrad Street by Thomas Mifflin School in East Falls, Philadelphia, 19129, that serves K-5 as well as 6-8 grades where my child is a student.
The intersection is dangerous and has been without a crossing guard for over a year, despite many requests. Drivers ascend Conrad Street up a steep hill from Midvale Avenue, and cannot see the crosswalk or stop sign until they near the top of the hill. Dropoff and pickup are busy with both cars and people, including drivers who stop in locations that block other drivers' and pedestrians’ view of the crosswalk. Moreover, the intersection has no stop light, and pedestrians—including children without adult supervision—have to ensure that a crossing driver sees them and is letting them pass before attempting to cross.
Last year a child was hit by a car near the school on Midvale Avenue on two different occasions. Every day that passes without a crossing guard at the West Queen Lane and Conrad intersection risks another child being hit or even killed.
We urgently need a crossing guard and other safety measures, such as more clearly marked crosswalks, to be implemented at this intersection to ensure the safety of children and families.
